Newberry is an historic city in the midlands of South Carolina, located just 35 miles northwest of Columbia. The Country Club of Newberry, founded in 1922, is one of the oldest golf clubs in the area. With its rolling fairways, generous greens, and some water, the Country Club of Newberry considers itself second to none in the South Carolina midlands. The semi-private club offers an 18 hole, par 72 course that is over 6,400 yards from the longest tees. The country club has a beautiful clubhouse and a fully stocked pro shop offering equipment and apparel. In addition, there is a putting green, chipping green, and a driving range. The snack bar and grill is open six days a week. Non-member rates for 18 holes with a cart are $28 for Monday-Thursday and $40 for Friday-Sunday play. Seniors age 60 and over pay $25 for Monday-Thursday and $35 for Friday-Sunday. No tee times are required for Monday-Thursday play, but tee times are required for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The club's dress code requires shirts with collars. No tee shirts, tank tops, or cut-offs are allowed. The Country Club of Newberry is located at 414 Country Club Road.
The Mid Carolina Country Club is located at 3593 Kiblers Bridge Road in nearby Prosperity, South Carolina. The club is at Exit 82 off I-26, on the frontage road. The semi-private golf club is open for public play on weekends and after 2pm on weekdays. The attractive course has Bermuda grass, rolling fairways, and some water. The course is over 6,800 yards from the longest tees. There are two putting greens and a driving range. The fully stocked pro shop offers equipment and apparel. The club's snack bar is open Monday through Saturday. Late day rates after 2pm Monday-Saturday are $35 and include cart and range balls. Rates for Friday-Sunday are $55. Tee times are required.
The nearby Whitmire Golf Club, located off Highway 121 in Whitmire, is a 9-hole regulation length course. The green fees are a reasonable $16. This public course is a good choice for golfers of all skill levels.
Visitors to Newberry may enjoy a round of golf at one of these popular courses. Newberry's mild weather allows for play most of the year.
